Old Dudes
This two elderly men (one's a monk) were hanging out
on a porch in front of the Songzhanling monastery. They patiently tried
to ignore me another photographer and I fired off a couple of shots.
Dancing Child
This wonderful slide was shot during one of the cultural
shows we attended. I was sitting in the front row shooting show when
I noticed the young child dancing on the table at stage side. I froze
the moment with my 'nuclear' powered flash.
Colorful Costumes
There was an incredible variety of colorful native costumes at the festival.
Playing Tunes
There were quite a few interesting musicians around the festival infield.
Senior Monks
I shot this slide from the second floor balcony inside the Songzhanling
monastery.
Young studious monks
These two were quite surprised that I thought they were photogenic.
Young Girl
This young girl was wandering around with her family in front of the Songzhanling
monastery.
Lone Lama
This will likely be the last monk at a remote monastery
we visited. I can't remember the name. The future of the monastery is
in doubt since it's difficult for this Lama to get students to study
at his remote location. Note: A traveler to Yunnan in late 2000 reported
that he Lone Lama had died.
Displaying Tie-Dyed Fabric
Intricate patterns were available in Chou Cheng village near Dali.
Tibetan Family
We visited their home near Zhongdian. The girl sitting
on her mothers lap was quite shy. I have a lot of slides of her hiding
her face. This one caught her off-guard. The house was quite big even
by western standards. It had a wood burning stove which vented the smoke
through an opening to the attic.
Young Tibetan Girl
Sani Minority
This woman was sitting in front of her home in Wu Ke
Shu. She is part of the Sani Minority culture. We walked through Wu
Ke Shu en route to the Stone Forest. I really enjoy seeing how the people
live vice seeing the staged touristy places. Walking the streets and
visiting markets can yield outstanding images.
I'm Tired!
While wandering through the market at Zhongdian we came across this
tired young boy. He was trying to sleep on his feet while leaning
on a sack of walnuts. This is one of PhotoMann's favorite images from
Yunnan. Unfortunately he can't find the original slide :-((.
