Samye Monastery

Samye was the first monastery built in Tibet. It's history dates back 1200 years. It can only be reached after an hour long river crossing by boat and then a 30 minute minibus ride on a bumpy sandy road. It was worth the trip!

Green Chorten

Adjacent to the Samye assembly hall sits the Green Chorten. Inside the lower level are a number of prayer wheels as shown to the right.

Relaxing

This old guy was resting on the steps to the Green Chorten.

River Crossing

We took a boat just like this one for the hour long river crossing.

"Relaxing" Ride

There weren't really any seats in the boat except on the edge of each compartment.

Returning Pilgrims

These pilgrims are waiting for the boat to return from their visit to Samye Monastery.

Samye 'Port'

The muddy and sandy river bank was the landing point for our trip to Samye.

Old Couple

This was a 'grab shot' taken from our bouncing minibus. The old couple sitting on the pile of rocks made was a great scene. I just wish the image was a little sharper!
