Stroll on the Beach
A relaxing stroll on the beach is a great escape.

The manager's house at the old East Point Plantation. The chapel is in
the background. Both buildings have been restored.
Company Store
The plantation store is in rough shape.
Wrecked RAF Catalina
This Royal Air Force Catalina that crashed in 1944. It sits on the beach
at the East Point Plantation. It's in remarkably good condition... for
a nearly 60 year old wreck DG was a refueling base for naval craft and
flying boats in World War II.
Cannon Point

threat in World War II.
Ship Store
Today's ship store in downtown DG includes this sign
showing the extreme distances from the island. California is 10,500
miles away. Florida is 10,100 miles in the other direction!
Beach Volleyball
Outdoor sports is a common island activity. Drinking
is the other!
Expat Club
The Expat Club overlooks the beach in the area where
most of the Filipino contract workers live. The club is a great place

I'm sorry to say there are no available books on Diego
Garcia. "Peak of Limuria - The Story of Diego Garcia" by Richard
Edis (Bellew Publishing, London, ISBN 1 85725 070 2) does offer a good
read on DG history but unfortunately it's out of print.
